Come and meet a passionate researcher

Since 2021, while studying for her master’s degree in ecology, Nadia Faure has specialised in the study of marine animals, particularly the angel shark (Squatina squatina). Her initial research continued as part of a thesis supervised by the University of Montpellier (CEFE) and Beauval Nature.

Her objectives are to contribute to the preservation of several marine species threatened with extinction, using innovative methods based on DNA and genetics.

Two species in the spotlight: the angel shark and the bottlenose dolphin

The angel shark
Once abundant, the angel shark is now critically endangered. Corsica is home to one of the last remaining populations, where accidental catches are regularly observed. Thanks to collaboration with local fishermen and genetic analysis of the individuals caught, it is possible to determine the status and functioning of this population.

The bottlenose dolphin
The Mediterranean subpopulation of bottlenose dolphins is now considered vulnerable and in decline by the IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The bottlenose dolphin is also an interesting case study because it is easy to observe and collect environmental DNA (eDNA) in the wake of groups.

A visual and audio immersion

The evening will be punctuated by audio and video content shown on a large screen, illustrating our speaker’s remarks.
After a few minutes of "questions and answers" with the audience, refreshments will be served, providing an opportunity to continue the discussion.

See you on 1st April: spread the word and come along!
