A spate of births at the ZooParc de Beauval
The ZooParc de Beauval is buzzing with new arrivals! Over the past few weeks, a wave of young animals has joined our herds and flocks: adorable babies, some of them rare, but always vital for the conservation of their species.
Whether they’re furry, feathered or scaly, shy or already very curious, they melt visitors’ hearts… whilst playing a vital role in raising awareness of biodiversity.
Early morning birth: a baby giraffe is born at Beauval!
At dawn on Sunday 6 July, a lovely surprise awaited the keepers at the African Savannah Animal House: a baby female had just been born, bringing the number of giraffes in the herd to six. Born at 6.21 am after two hours of labour, the baby giraffe quickly stood on her own two feet and suckled from her mother straight away.
“It all happened very quickly. Less than an hour passed between the birth and her first feed! The calf is very alert for a newborn, and quite sturdy,” says Julien, the first keeper to arrive on the scene.
This little female, weighing 73 kg and measuring approximately 1m60 to 1m70, was examined by the vets the very next morning. She is doing very well and stays close to her mother, Baya, who has now given birth for the fourth time, following Kimia (July 2019), Maïwenn (February 2022) and Sofy (September 2023).
The group, consisting solely of females and belonging to the reticulated giraffe subspecies – classified as Endangered by the IUCN – now numbers six individuals, all of whom you can sponsor.

A vote is underway on social media to choose her name from the suggestions put forward by the keepers. It’s up to you to choose your favourite!
Update: Following the vote on the ZooParc’s social media channels, the female giraffe calf has been named Mia!
2 extremely rare Douc langurs
There isn’t just one, but two baby Douc langurs currently on display in the Equatorial Dome. Visitors may be lucky enough to see the first baby, born on 10 May to a mother called Champa, start exploring the play equipment on its own. But as for the second one, born to Maï Ly as recently as 15 June, you’ll have to look hard to spot it, clinging to its mother’s belly! As the only representatives of their species in any European zoo, and classified as ‘critically endangered’ on the IUCN Red List, these two births are a major event for the ZooParc de Beauval!

3 adorable saïmiris
There’s something new among the liveliest of the little monkeys at the Dôme! Opposite the manatee pool, visitors can spot three little fur balls clinging tightly to their mums’ backs! Born on 2 June, 15 June and 11 July, the little squirrel monkeys are being looked after by the keepers, who have not yet been able to determine their sex. We’ll have to wait a few more weeks before the keepers choose their names.

A spate of births at Beauval
The ZooParc de Beauval has recorded a series of notable births in recent weeks. Among the new arrivals are sloths, giant otters, white-necked cranes, armadillos, Beisa oryx, bongos, Barbary macaques, capybaras, mouse deer, Javan langurs, Humboldt’s penguins, black hippo, Somali donkeys, as well as giant kookaburras and black kites. All of these babies are invaluable for species conservation, as some are rare or endangered in the wild.
These births join those of Kookynie, a baby koala born in January 2024, and Inca, a baby anteater born in April 2024.
Summer has never been so heart-warming… It’s the perfect time to come and meet them all!
