Día de los Muertos, a colourful Mexican tradition
Celebrated mainly on 1 and 2 November, the Día de los Muertos has its roots in the traditions of Mexico’s indigenous peoples, which have, over the course of history, blended with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. This tradition lovingly honours the memory of departed loved ones. Even today, Mexican families prepare ofrendas – altars adorned with photographs, candles, cempasúchil flowers, the deceased’s favourite foods and personal belongings. Each item tells a story and helps to keep memories alive in a warm, family-oriented and colourful atmosphere. This celebration is included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

With its Mexican-inspired architecture and décor, the Hôtel Les Rivages de Beauval offers the ideal setting to discover this tradition. During the All Saints’ Day holidays, the hotel’s Mexican identity will be revealed in a new light through the colours, flowers and symbols of the Día de los Muertos.
At the heart of this immersive experience, a large ofrenda will help you gain a deeper understanding of the significance of this celebration. You can also contribute to a collective creation on the Wall of Happy Memories and write a first name, a memory or a personal thought that will enrich the décor as the days go by.

Follow the path of memories
An orange flower will show you the way… but the rest of the story cannot be told: it must be experienced!
During your stay, take your Pasaporte de los Muertos with you and set off in search of symbols hidden throughout the hotel’s various areas. Each discovery will help you progress along this fun journey. Once your passport is complete, present it at reception: a little surprise will be waiting for you…
You might also be lucky enough to spot La Catrina. With her elegant silhouette and richly adorned face, this iconic figure of Mexican popular culture will come to meet you at certain times of the day.
Mexico also takes centre stage at the table
The journey continues at Le Yucatan restaurant, where a selection of creations inspired by Día de los Muertos will enhance the buffet. You may even have the chance to try the traditional Pan de Muerto or a calavera-shaped cake…
A specially decorated table, La Mesa de Frida, will also offer a unique experience to a few lucky guests. At the bar, make way for the Élixir de los Muertos, a cocktail or mocktail that will also be decked out in the colours of the event, with a presentation to be discovered in person. We won’t say any more than that!
