… Kookynie!
So many of you voted for a name for Genoa’s baby koala, and we’d like to thank you all very much! Four names were shortlisted by the keepers in the panda and koala section: Mackay (a town in Queensland), Kinta (meaning ‘laughter’ in Aboriginal), Kookynie (meaning ‘waterhole’ or ‘spring’ in Aboriginal / it’s also a historic town in Australia), and Mundoa (a combination of Mundoe and Genoa, its parents).
