A first outside Asia: the golden snub-nosed monkeys have arrived at Beauval!
A major event! Our sensational new addition for 2025 was announced on 27 November 2024. After several months of anticipation, the golden snub-nosed monkeys arrived at ZooParc de Beauval on Thursday 3 April, welcomed by a guard of honour made up of staff and visitors. A few hours earlier, the plane carrying the golden snub-nosed monkeys had landed at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport, with a vet from Beauval and a keeper from Shanghai Wild Animal Park on board.
Beauval has therefore officially become the first park outside Asia to welcome the extraordinary golden snub-nosed monkeys. Following a period of quarantine in their country of origin, the three animals – one male and two females – have also been placed in quarantine on French soil, at their new home in Beauval. This quarantine period will end in early May: so we’ll need to be patient a little longer before the French and European public can come and see them!

Following on from the giant pandas, the golden snub-nosed monkeys have been entrusted to Beauval for a period of 10 years as part of a conservation and research programme with the CWCA (China Wildlife Conservation Association). Scientists, vets and keepers from both countries will join forces to study these extraordinary primates and work together on their conservation. Golden snub-nosed monkeys are classified as ‘Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List. By welcoming them, Beauval is thus strengthening its role in raising awareness and protecting the species. “It is a tremendous honour to be able to contribute once again to the protection of one of China’s national treasures! Golden snub-nosed monkeys are a fascinating species, and visitors will have the privilege of admiring them at the fourth most beautiful zoo in the world. Just like the pandas, the arrival of these primates strengthens the ties between France and China in the field of wildlife conservation,” explains Rodolphe Delord, CEO of ZooParc de Beauval.

In the coming weeks, Beauval will be asking its social media followers to choose the first names of the three golden snub-nosed monkeys by voting for their favourite. In the meantime, find out all about them on our special ‘golden snub-nosed monkeys’ page.
